Fun Christmas competition!

Are you looking for a fun Christmas maths activity to keep children thinking in the run up to Christmas?

This challenge combines creativity and reasoning and is a great excuse to get the glitter out!

Children use their times table knowledge and reasoning skills to create a set of Christmas themed FunKey Times Tables cards for numbers 1 – 24.

When the cards are finished, hang them as Christmas decorations. They look great on a tree!

This activity can be done in groups, in pairs or by individuals.

Complete a full set of 24 cards and you could win a class set of FunKey Times Tables Cards for your school!

What’s the task?

1.      Print off the three sheets of empty card templates by clicking on the link below. There is one template for each of the numbers 1-24 but they are not in order!!!

2.      Each group/ child works out which number goes in which template. To do this, they will need to consider the properties of the numbers. Are they prime, square, or ordinary products? Children also need to work out what the factors are for each number (up to 12 x 12).

3.     Once the numbers are in the templates, each group/child decorates the templates. We are looking for a new FunKey Christmas design for each factor. Children need to take care to be consistent with their designs across all 24 cards.

4.      Once you have a full set of 24 cards, display them as a Christmas decoration in any way you like. Then take a photograph or a video of the display and send it to maggie@funkeymaths.com by midnight on 24th December 2025.

We will display our favourites online and let you know if you are the lucky winner by 30th January 2026. The judges’ decision is final!
