How to play

Deal seven cards to each player. The players keep their cards hidden from each other. The rest of the cards remain in a pile face down.

The aim of the game is to win the most cards.

Each round, players lay two cards each. The two cards must be multiples of the same times table. The player laying cards from the highest times table wins all the cards played in that round. If two or more players lay cards from the same times table, then the player with the highest multiple wins.

So for example if I lay 3 x 12 and 10 x 12, my highest multiple of 12 is 120. If the other player has 2 x 12 and 12 x 12, they would win as their highest multiple is 144.

Beware! The highest card does not always win!  Look at this example.

Player 1

Player 2

Player 1 has laid two cards in the 10x table.

Player 2 has laid two cards in the 8x table.

Even though Player 2 has the highest card (48) Player 1 wins because both his/her cards are from a higher times table (10x table v. 8x table).

After playing two cards, players pick up two replacement cards from the pile, and the next round starts. If a player can’t lay a pair of cards from the same times table, they can swap any two cards out of their hand for the top two cards from the pile. Their discarded cards go to the bottom of the pile.

The game ends when no-one can lay any more cards. The winner is the player who has won the most cards.

Notes:

  1. This game is played using only the factors shown on the cards.
  2. Any player who is dealt or picks up 1 can swap this card out and replace it from the top of the pile.
